Program Description

Do you need certification or recertification in the initial assessment and immediate treatment of patients in respiratory or cardiac distress? This course meets the American Heart Association standards for certification in providing basic emergency care to adult and pediatric patients.

Who Should Attend?  Nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, students, orthopedic technicians, emergency department technicians and other health sciences professionals wishing to acquire AHA BLS certification.

Desired Learning Outcome:  You will practice all skills of effective basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

  • Overview of Science
  • 1-rescuer CPR with AED and bag-mask for adult victims
  • 2-rescuer CPR for adult victims
  • Review of child CPR techniques
  • 1-rescuer CPR for infant victims
  • 2-rescuer CPR with bag-mask for infant victims
  • Review rescue breathing principles
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant victims
  • 1 & 2-rescuer CPR Practical Test for adult and infant victims
  • Written Test

 

Diane L. Paulson, Major (Retired Army Nurse Corps), MSN, BSN, RN

Diane joined us after retiring from the Army Nurse Corps in 2007. Her years of service have led her to a variety of clinical and management areas in healthcare. Her most notable assignments were head nurse of the emergency treatment section of 2 deployed Combat Support Hospitals (Kosovo and Kuwait).

Diane holds a Master’s in Adult Medical/Surgical Nursing with an emphasis on emergency services from Armstrong Atlantic State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington. She is a certified BLS, PALS, ACLS, TNCC and ENPC instructor.

Accreditation

No contact hours will be given in accordance with Acute Care Education policy.

Official American Heart Association card will be given to all learners that meet AHA standards and pass the written test with a minimum score of 84%.

Registration includes:  Attendance at program, downloadable program handouts, all day coffee, tea, water, and snacks.  Wi-fi is available in the conference center.
