Program Description

Critical Decisions for Rapid Responses will assist those interested in developing rapid response teams, as well as improving current teams in inpatient settings.  Guided discussion will help you to understand how the history of rapid response, best practices, collaboration, end of life, and ethical issues tie to your decision-making, intuition and pattern recognition abilities.  We will use several case studies, examining the critical thinking and decision-making in these most common rapid response scenarios.

Who Should Attend?  Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, students and other health sciences professionals.

Desired Learning Outcome:  Learners will gain skills in critical thinking and decision making in order to rapidly assess and respond to potential crisis situations.

  • Explore the history, development, and importance of rapid response teams, understanding the difference from a code blue
  • Examine perspectives of critical thinking and decision-making as a science, incorporating evidence on pattern recognition and intuition
  • Integrate several common rapid response case scenarios with an approach to intervention utilizing critical thinking and decision-making

Anne Hedger, DNP, ACNP-BC, ANP-BC, CPNP-AC, ENP-BC, CCRN

Dr. Hedger is passionate about educating bedside nurses and promoting advanced nursing practice.  As the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program Coordinator at The University of South Alabama, Anne infuses passion for distance education with a style to prepare students for the challenges they will face in practice.  She has maintained a clinical practice as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in an Emergency Department setting since 2000.  As the Director of the Advanced Practice Provider group for her Emergency Department, she coordinates quality assurance and improvement activities, mentors new grads, and precepts both NP and PA students from several local programs.  She also serves as the ANCC Emergency Nurse Practitioner Content Expert panel for the newly released ENP certification exam through portfolio.  She is nationally board certified as an Adult and Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.  Dr. Hedger holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Washington with a concentration in program development, outcomes, and clinical effectiveness, with an interest in rural and distance education. .   

Accreditation

This educational activity will provide 6.0 contact hours (including 0.0 pharmacology hours) to learners who complete the Criteria of Successful Completion.

Acute Care Education (PA-48/Nov/20) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Washington State Nurses Association Continuing Nursing Education Approver (A-CNE), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Registration includes:  Attendance at program, downloadable program handouts, all day coffee, tea, water, and snacks.  All supplies are included. Wi-fi is available in the conference center.
