Do you need more guidance to improve your triage skills? Would you like more practice and a chance to discuss rationales to validate your triage decisions? This triage class is designed to provide you with basic information regarding emergent conditions to assist with difficult triage decisions. It can be tailored to fit your hospital’s triage policies. It reflects the Emergency Nurses Association guidelines and recommendations. 


Objectives
Upon completion of Triage: Key Concepts & Scenario Practice, the learner will:

  • Contrast the differences between the three, four and five category triage systems
  • Distinguish between routine versus disaster triage systems
  • Summarize COBRA and EMTALA regulations
  • Identify triage nurse responsibilities
  • Categorize emergent conditions for all major body systems
  • Discuss emergent condition for other medical situations
  • Verbalize special considerations for pediatric assessments to include red flags which indicate emergent conditions
  • Explain special considerations for geriatric patients
  • Identify emergent conditions for obstetric clients
  • Assess emergent conditions for psychiatric clients
  • Practice triage skills with multiple triage scenarios and practical exercises
  • Successfully pass a triage competency exam with 80%
