Moderate Sedation for Experienced Providers

Description

Have you been certified to provide moderate sedation procedures? Do you need a refresher on what Joint Commission says you should be doing? Are you aware of pediatric and other special population considerations regarding moderate sedation procedures? Are you prepared to manage potential complications related to moderate sedation administration?

This seminar provides the didactic education with practical exercises to guide the nurse who has administered moderate sedation. The course provides an in-depth discussion of commonly used sedation medications and reversal agents, to include recommended dose, onset, peak, duration and side effects.

Objectives

Upon completion of Moderate Sedation for Experienced Providers, the learner will:

  • Identify the sedation level based on respiratory effort, protective reflexes and level of consciousness
  • Discuss pre-procedure assessment components
  • Summarize monitoring and documentation requirements for patients receiving moderate sedation
  • List discharge parameters for the patient who has received moderate sedation
  • Analyze pertinent information regarding pharmacological agents used in moderate sedation
  • Demonstrate interventions for common complications arising from administration of moderate sedation
  • Evaluate basic dysrhythmias

  • In-depth review of pharmacological sedation, reversal and intubation agents
  • Causes, prevention and treatment for potential complications
  • Basic ECG recognition review
  • Practical exercise and post test
