X-ray interpretation can be challenging if you don't use them everyday. Understanding the fundamentals of an x-ray is a necessity for inpatient client care. This course is designed to enhance your skill as a clinician to identify structures in chest films. Time is spent on ordering and interpreting. This interactive class includes lecture combined with practical time to demonstrate and apply the skills of x-ray interpretation.

Objectives

Upon completion of Diagnostic Interpretation, the learner will:

  • Determine the correct terminology to order a radiograph
  • Identify the common structures in a normal chest
  • Use the five step method to interpret radiographic plain films
  • Distinguish between the following conditions in a plain film chest radiograph: pneumothorax, cardiomegaly, consolidation and pleural fluid
  • Verbalize the difference in diagnostic ability of using plain films, CT imaging, and MRI imaging
  • Integrate the use of radiological findings into the clinical picture and the differential diagnosis
  • Discuss indications for ordering types of radiological procedures
  • Review case studies and determine appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment therapies
