Critical
Situations for Non-Critical Care Personnel
Description
Inpatient
hospital care is comprised of a wide variety of clinical
personnel with varying degrees of clinical training
and experience. When an emergency situation develops,
the outcome, or rather, the patient's survival can
be directly influenced by healthcare personnel's abilities
to recognize and respond appropriately to the situation.
Hospitals should have an emergency response team dedicated
to the rapid delivery of advanced life support. Situations
often arise that stretch the limited resources of
personnel and supplies. Staff may be asked to perform
in a role that is foreign to them.
This
course is designed to give licensed and non-licensed
staff, assessment tools that can be used to help identify
eminently critical situations. It describes key principals
and fundamental skills necessary to respond appropriately
in a critical situation. Methods of instruction include
case studies/scenario instruction that emphasizes
triage skills as they apply to bedside care, discussion
and skill stations where hospital specific equipment
is utilized.
Acute
Care Education Associates, Inc. consultants will provide
this four-hour course divided into a two-hour lecture
session followed by a two-hour hands-on skill station.
A hospital/unit specific post-test to evaluate the
participant's knowledge will be provided. The optimal
number of participants per session is no more than
8-10 per instructor to enhance the learning potential
and participant comfort level.
