Bridges In The Workplace
Description
Remember
being the new nurse who felt stupid asking questions,
or marveling over how the nurse with 20 years experience
could start the IV without even looking? As an experienced
nurse, do you ever wonder why your new orientee can't
get the IV even though you have showed her 100 times?
This class is designed especially for the mentor and/or
mentee who want to understand each other to make the
workplace a more positive environment. We will explore
novice-to-expert learning theories, generational group
dynamics, managing the effect of change in the workplace,
and nurturing critical thinking and competency skills.
Teaching methods include group interactions, assessment
tools, lecture and simulation. A comprehensive outline
will be provided.
Objectives
Upon
completion of building bridges in the workplace, the
learner will:
- Discuss
the five phases of learning according to Benner

State how experiences across the lifespan affect
generational perceptions and cognitive learning
- Develop
a stress management plan for workplace changes
- Build
positive workplace environments through teamwork,
communication and mentoring
- Identify
strategies for fostering critical thinking, paradigm
shifting, leadership, and maintaining a positive
learning environment
