This seminar is for all professionals who provide medical care for bariatric clients.  It will provide the essential didactic education of the research driven guidelines.  This course provides an in-depth discussion of physical assessment, preoperative care, postoperative care, and long term care techniques specifically tailored to bariatric patients.

Objectives

Upon completion of Bariatrics: A Different Type of Patient, the learner will:

  • Outline the components of the Obesity Guidelines
  • Discuss modification of physical assessment techniques and data analysis needed for bariatric patients
  • List the preoperative education and immediate postoperative care needed for optimal outcomes after bariatric surgery
  • Relate the need to balance nutrition and caloric intake for the bariatric patient
  • Describe the long term care recommendations after gastric bypass or lap band surgery
  • Name the vitamin and medications considerations for patients after gastric bypass surgery
  • Examine the psychological predisposition of bariatric patients and methods to encourage lifestyle changes
