Baby X's & Gen-Boomers: Can't We All Just Get Along?

Description

A multigenerational workforce challenges nursing leaders to achieve harmony in the workplace as well as stimulate professional growth and retain a shrinking workforce. In order to achieve workplace harmony, leaders need an in depth knowledge of the four generations and the values which motivate them to achieve professional growth. Each generation has different experiences which have shaped them to respond and react differently to the challenges faced in today's workplace. Communication tools help facilitate dialogue which can improve workplace relationships and contribute to a greater appreciation of coworkers. Nursing leaders should focus on the strengths of each generation and apply specific leadership skills to motivate and enhance workplace relationships. The participant will gain a greater understanding of the behavior patterns often attributed to personality traits which influence workplace behavior. This session strives to enhance relationships between coworkers, preceptors/preceptees, management and staff through an awareness of multigenerational workforce characteristics and the leadership skills which can be implemented to facilitate recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce.
